Ashley McIntyre and Danny Robinson met when Danny was 25 years old and in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Danny was a dialysis patient, he had been diagnosed at 16 with IgA nephropathy, which is a disease in which an antibody gets lodged in the kidneys and causes inflammation and loss of function. He suffered through the symptoms, spending four hours a day, three days a week on dialysis. Danny’s family was supportive, and many of them offered their kidneys, however, none of them had the matching kidney type he needed. Robinson spent two years on the transplant list, until a donor with the appropriate kidney named Ashley volunteered to lend Danny hers. Danny had never met Ashley before, but of course he was more than relieved, he was thrilled.
